The original inception of Goosebumps had started in 2006 by lead singer Mark Churchward who had a desire to create a band that played such great music that it would invoke goosebumps amongst the audience and thereby the name of the band was decided. After finding Ben Green on the now-defunct Kent Gigs 'musicians wanted' website, the pair decided to put together a set list that had a wide variety of songs that not many other bands were performing. After finding a suitable line-up consisting of lead vocals, double bass, saxophone, guitar and drums, Goosebumps started gigging locally and slowly but surely honed our set list and built up a loyal following along the way, many of whom still come and see us perform at public gigs today.
It wasn't long before wedding enquiries started to filter in and quite frankly, it had come as a bit of a surprise to us initially because we were not too sure if our eclectic set list of vintage swing and jive songs would appeal and yet it soon became apparent that there was a quite the demand from wedding couples who were seeking a live band that were unique, a bit different and altogether more memorable than just a typical function band. We were and to this very day continue to be very grateful that we are chosen by so many couples to be their favourite band who invite a us to entertain them on their very important day.
A common request from many audience members who saw us play and enjoyed what they had heard was if we had any albums for sale. After a few years of refining our song arrangements, we thought that the time was right to invest in some studio time to get a collection of tunes recorded for prosperity. A few days spent at Ten21 studios in October of 2008 culminated in our debut album Chicken Skin Swing. It was very well-received, garnering a 5 star review from Maverick Magazine and paved the way to making a follow-up album in 2011 called Ride Daddy Ride, equally to receive another 5 star review.

In November 2013, we were invited to perform at a new London club called Steam & Rye that had just been opened by model, actress and television presenter Kelly Brook. The Gatsby-era Americana decor of the club was perfectly suited to our vintage swing and jive show and it was only when we were sound checking that afternoon did we realise that it was Kelly’s birthday and that we were even going to sing Happy Birthday to her. Although we missed meeting her in person, she was kind enough to post a message to us on her Twitter account the next day “You guys were great!! Thank you so much x"
By 2014, our client list was expanding and included an invite to perform in The Seychelles and for Sir Bobby Charlton at his Find A Better Way charity in London - again, both these and most bookings coming directly via our own website and not through an agency, showing that it is entirely possible to self-manage a band without any need for a third-party agent. About a week after playing at the charity Gala, Mark received a letter in the post from Sir Bobby Charlton saying “I am writing to express my sincere gratitude for the fantastic job your band did in entertaining the guests at our recent Gala Dinner. Goosebumps performed with such spirit and energy and your music is both infectious and uplifting. As such, thank you for your contribution in making the event such a success."
Later in 2014 we were directly contacted by Olexy Group who wanted a highly-professional band that could handle performing to a large audience - all of whom had paid big money to have a sit-down three-course meal and watch an A-List celebrity being interviewed. The celebrity was none-other than Mr. Arnold Schwarzenegger who was interviewed by Jonathan Ross and we were enlisted to entertain the audience before and after the interview. In 2015 we were invited back by the Olexy Group to perform at “An Experience With Jean-Claude Van Damme”, showing once again that our sophisticated show and entertaining expertise were just what the organiser had wanted and subsequently invited us back for more.
2015Also, in 2015 we were called upon by the RAF. No, not for our fighter pilot skills but to entertain everyone on base at RAF Akrotiri in Cyprus for their summer ball. We were flown over and were very well looked-after throughout our stay and played a wonderful and warm evening outdoor gig on the base as the headline act for Akrotiri Officers' Mess 60th Anniversary.
Going into ten years of Goosebumps, we never take any performance for granted. We are always wanting to put on the very best show that we can for weddings, parties and corporate events and our ambition still remains the same which is to keep furthering and improving every detail of the band and to never rest upon our laurels. Onwards and upwards!
